I was going to pick up OE 15" steelies from Scarbo Mazda possibly, read some thread that they were 45 each which is pretty good. I think I'm gonna splurge a bit on the rubber and go for either Arctic Alpin or Pilot Alpin (both Michelin). I've heard good reports on these tires, with the Pilots being slightly better in all characteristics than the Arctics, mainly because they're designed for sport and they look better. The catch is they're considerably more expensive.
What do you think of imi-chrome wheel covers for my winter set!? lol

Before you buy 14s you better check clearance on the brakes.

Check out the Rollers Topic for WALMART $39.97 14'S for p5's. I'll try and dig it up for myself and post it. I even submitted the product number.

THIS WAS MY ORIGINAL POST.
AS FOR THEM FITTING I DON'T KNOW BUT HEY!, IT'S WALMART AND WHAT A GREAT RETURN POLICY.

Yes you have read it correctly.
I inquired and looked at the TECNICIANS CATOLOGUE at a Brampton Walmart, and they have a 14" 5 X's 114.3 bolt circle rims for the P5.
It is a multi application wheel: catologue number
X99105-N. It goes for $39.97/pc. and is ordered through them.
Just thought I would pass along the info for those of us seeking the cheapest package possible so we can upgrade to better winter tires keeping the ghetto budget in mind.
Another guy on this board PM'd me on that he too ran 14's in the winter on his P5. I think his board name is harrison, quite new to posting.
He said they fit fine. I guess the beauty of Walmart you can exchange them without hassel if they don't fit properly from now until infinity and get the original size.

just wondering if there would be any issues in running 185/65/15 tires on my P5...there's about a 0.8" difference in overall diameter which would lead to about a max 5km speedomete guage reading when doing 100km/hr...can anyone see any other downfalls?
the reason i ask is because there doesn't seem to be many tires in the 185/60/15 range...185/65/15 gives several different options...plus they are a heck of a lot cheaper than 195/55/15 (the recommended winter tire for the P5)...

Jika, I can vouch for the Pilot Alpins. Used them last winter on OE 15" steelies (195/55/15). They cost more than other tires but being H rated instead of T, they give you the confidence on dry roads. No sidewall rollover so I didn't notice a degradation in performance on dry days. They are not as efficient in snow as say Blizzak WS15s in my opinion but they are not available in our required size.
If you're not interested in the speed rated tires, ie. performance is not a factor, there are lots of cheaper choices out there. Yokohama 600s worked great on my Accord.

Like I promised, I would keep looking for lower prices for my peeps. When I said I would keep looking I really meant it.
In the Ghetto I just didn't want to stop digging at the basement I drilled a new hole to the sub-basement where prices are kept on the downlo.

One of the reps there said it is probably the Winter Tire called SIGNET WINTER TRAX by Hercules Tire Company USA. I'm looking into it now in another window.
And here is the website to navigate at your leisure and to find more about this company and specific tire if you are quite new to them.

With regards to some conversations I've been participating in, and have overheard, the following applies. This is not for the guys who have posted here, I'm cutting and pasting my original post from the 'Rollers Section'.
As for all of you who are son's and daughter of OIL SHIEKS screw you. What is this CRAP ABOUT WINTER PERFORMANCE TIRES and WHEELS.
For some of us this purchase is equal to a set of summer rims and tires. Good for you if you have that kind of money!!!.
THE KEY WORD IS 'WINTER TIRE'. So all of the Shaolin outcast bastards seeking 40, 50 series tires in Yoko's, Toyo's, Pirelli's Z Rated Winter Slicks, good luck with your PERFORMANCE WINTER DRIVING.

I think the stock Dunlop's are fine for the winter. How much does it actually snow in the city. Last year there were maybe 3 days of considerable snow. I'm not wasting my money on snow tires. If i lived in the snow belt areas the yes i would but i dont go out the city in my car during the winter.

i guess it depends where you're going and where you drive. for some it's more of a peace of mind thing. grippier winter tires, more control. although alot of it has to do with how well the driver knows their car's behaviour and limits.

Wow!
It's not so much the snow for me even though its a factor; it is the slushy crap, rain and cold temperatures of which I think these tires suck.
If I was in stop and go traffic mostly I would keep them on, but I do a good mixture of cruising and open road commuting and travelling, plus I want to protect the alloys.

CarDemon and I are in the same boat. Although I personally haven't had any winter experience on the Dunlops, every other thing that has been pointed out about them I totally agree with. Reasons I'm buying a snow package:
1) Simple peace of mind. I don't know this car's extreme weather handling capabilities yet and I'm not taking any chances.
2) I live in a suburban area lying in the lower part of the snowbelt. We see more snow than downtown, and it seems to accumulate more. And people ALWAYS forget how to drive in it.
3) I won't be replacing my stock wheels until they either wear out or I wreck them somehow, so I want to protect the alloy rims.
4) Because I said so.

I'm running 15" steel's with Kumho I'ZEN Stud KW-11. 185/65/15. I got a deal on em. Paid $500 installed.
If you're worried about what size to get look here
Tire Size Calculator (http://www.eunos.com/tirecalc/)
from the calculator:
Stock tire
sidewall 97.5 mm
radius 300.7 mm
diameter 601.4 mm
circumf 1889.4 mm
revs/km 529.0
winter
sidewall 120.3 mm
radius 310.8 mm
diameter 621.5 mm
circumf 1952.5 mm
revs/km 512.0
Speedometer reading with winter tire is 3.3% too slow.
So when you're driving at 100km/h the speedometer will say 96.7km/h

Where'd you get the deal? Was it an inside hookup, or is it open to others as well?

It was an inside thing. And it was an this is for you price so sorry.
Also I edited my previouse post 3.3% slower means you're going 103.3km/h and the speedo says 100km/h

I got 14" black steelies and 185-65-14 Blizzak WS-50 snows on my GT (same as P5) it's really close on the rear brakes but they fit! I live in the great white North (Barrie) so I absolutely insist on snow tires, the Dunlops absolutely suck in the snow!
BTW I just put mine on yesterday and I need to know; where in the hell do you jack up a Protegé? I learned quickly that it's not the same spot as my Civic (reinforced on the lower sill) as the metal started to fold up.

Oh that's so funny as I changed a flat tire the other day and put the jack underneath a seemingly solid place and not the side skirt near the front wheel and I nearly cried.
The B#$@! sunk in like playdough and I must have a permanent sink mark when viewed from underneath. I don't wanna even look at what I've done. Next time I'm only jacking up my car dead ctr front and dead ctr back with those shipping tie hooks. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif
