Woo .. just arrived from FedEX. It's so pretty .. hahaha. Blue with a "MS" logo on it.
Of course I can't read any of the instructions because they're all in Japanese from the A-Spec touring kit... shucks.
It's a triple-stage foam filter (but it is washable and re-usable) so I'm guessing it doesn't need oiling before install? Can I just plunk it in? Or would it need some kind of special treatment like the K&N filters..

It should feel kinda oily to the touch, not overly just if you rub your fingers together after touching it you should know if there was oil there. Otherwise you should be set to drop it in.

Why do you need pictures when I will be bringing it with me to the meet tonight? hehe. Haven't opened it yet .. want to have pictures of it which I will do after work.
As a side-note, can anyone in the club read Japanese? http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

hey rowan,
did you order that filter from corksport by any chance? I have been looking for the same mazdaspeed filter - can you post or email me where you ordered it from and approx. how much it was? awake724@rogers.com
thanks..

Ordered it through Mazda Motorsports, not Cork Sport.
It's not cheap .. something like $80 USD. Ouch. But it's blue and it has a logo on it .. haha.
Not sure how it compares to the K&N filter .. the MS one claims 20% better airflow than the stock one. It's the one they use on the A-spec touring kit for the S-Wagon but you probably already knew that http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

(search for mazdaspeed and it should come up)

$80 is steep. I was recomended to use K+N by a Mazda mechanic at North Toronto yesterday. He said you won;t notice any difference in performance, but it's better for the engine: lets it breathe better.
So K+N it is.

It should be pre-oiled much like the HKS Superflow filter I have so it's just ready to bolt on. It's good that the MS is washable unlike the HKS, which needs to be replaced every 40k.

Well, it's in. Hope the instructions didn't say to do anything special http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

hey rowan...it sure looked pretty nice!
should free up some breathing and let the engine rev easier...
and nice part is that your not getting any hot air like the open cone filter intakes (although they flow even better)...
Racing teams like Comptech use cold air boxes similar to stock air boxs but with better flow qualities....they don't like hot air reaching any of the sensors in the Type R's....Hondas are extremely sensitive to high intake temperatures!
anyway, good luck with the new filter!
